Are you a SCUBA diver, experienced snorkeller or shore searcher? We are running a 1 day Seasearch Observer course at Swansea Yacht and Sub-aqua club on Sat 22nd March. Date: March 22nd (2025)
Tutor: Matt Green & Winter Dotto
Booking: Confirm you want to book the course by emailing me (marinegreenphoto@gmail.com), I will send you a registration form with payment details.
Location: Swansea Yacht and Sub-aqua club conference room (+ diving/shore searching in local waters)

Experience required: No experience or knowledge is required for the course. However, for local SYSAC organised Seasearch dives at least BSAC Sports Diver (or equivalent) with at least 10 recent UK sea dives OR Ocean Divers with regular experience of diving in Swansea Bay (lower vis, currents). We will be diving under BSAC recreational regs.
The course is available to all.
Overview:
Introduction to Seasearch
Gain a basic grounding in marine recording
Learn how to recognise and classify marine habitats and species
Learn how to complete the Seasearch Observation Form
Qualification: At the end of the course, you'll get a Seasearch Qualification booklet. Once you have completed five forms from dives (two on observation sessions with a tutor available to help) you will be a qualified Seasearch Observer and able to take part in Seasearch dives, snorkels and shore searches locally and around the UK. Divers will need to be medically fit to dive and hold valid insurance.
Why sign up: It’s a really great opportunity to learn about local marine life. It will enhance your diving experience (especially when we have lower visibility dives) and give you the skills to record marine life. You will have the opportunity to go on Seasearch organised trips all around the UK and meet amazing people. There are a serious lack of records locally so it is likely that when you survey a reef in local waters it will be the first ever time that area has been surveyed. All data you produce from this will be stored on national databases and used for conservation and species distribution maps which will aid our collective knowledge of marine life now and into the future.
