Our Story

Matt Green and Winter Dotto met working as professional marine biologists in Swansea, Wales they shared a passion for marine life, science, ecology and education. They have cofounded Marine Matters together to educate and inspire people about local marine life and conservation.

Marine Matters aims to inspire and educate people of all ages about marine life through fun interactive sessions with engaging activities and education to improve local environmental knowledge and encourage protection.

The Team

Matt Green

Matt has been involved in marine life science, conservation and education for 20 years. He has worked at academic, private, charitable and government organisations in the UK, Malaysia, USA, Portugal and New Zealand. He currently coordinates a Welsh national government Marine Protected Area monitoring, analysis and reporting programme as a Senior Marine Monitoring Ecologist and key member of the national scientific dive team for Natural Resources Wales (Welsh Governmental Nature Agency).

Matt has a broad interest across the spectrum of marine life from variety of habitats. He is based in Swansea and is the local Marine Conservation Society Seasearch Team Co-ordinator and a Tutor for and he leads regular seashore safaris, public talks and bioblitz events locally and around the UK.

Matt has worked as an underwater photographer/videographer in many locations around the world and loves the challenge of underwater camera work. He particularly enjoys capturing the wonder of weird and beautiful UK marine habitats and species and sharing this at public events and online. He really values and enjoys engagement with people who have not had much access to the sea. Using underwater photography and videography Matt has worked with various production companies (including BBC and Off the Fence), local authorities, NGOs and dive centres around the world.

Winter Dotto

Winter is a Marine Biologist, she learned to dive at university and discovered Seasearch and volunteered diving and recording for 10 years. She taught marine ecology at Dale Fort field centre and her interests in the marine environment are widespread from the sub-tidal to the intertidal rocky shores. Winter enjoys beach cleaning and has a particular interest in marine litter.

Winter works for Natural Resources Wales as a Monitoring Analysis Officer mainly dealing with data, however she is currently on secondment with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee working as a Wales Liaison Officer working on nature recovery and conservation. Winter enjoys sea swimming and any activity that involves the sea. She enjoys exploring the Gower peninsula and close by Pembrokeshire shores in her spare time.
